Stories were profusely illustrated by new and well-known artists. The series featured popular stories by many prominent children's authors. The spine is also bumped and the book has cracked hinges, but pages are intact. This volume has 3 sharp corners, with the lower front corner slightly bumped and having wear on the bottom edge. And there are non-fiction pieces on rocks and Turkey and Clara Barton. There's also a short Grimm's tale and a Norse folk tale. The first quarter of the volume is taken up with a very abridged version of "Robinson Crusoe", illustrated by Edward Shenton.

Most notable about this series was the use of some excellent illustrators.
